Water chemicals

Water quality is important to full grain brewing. The right amounts of minerals in the water can make the difference between a good and a great beer. The right acidity of the water is vital to obtaining a correct mash pH.

In order to correct the quality of your tap or borehole water precisely, you will need to have your water analyzed (contact us for details) and then work out which salts to add in what quantity with the aid of one of several water calculators that can be found on the Internet. Two popular ones are John Palmer's Water Calculator (XLS spreadsheet) and Martin Brungard's Bru'n Water.

Never simply add brewing salts or acids to your brewing water just because the receipe says so.
